"It is no longer possible to claim that religion should be restricted to the private sphere and that it exists only to prepare souls for heaven. …An authentic faith - which is never comfortable or completely personal - always involves a deep desire to change the world, to transmit values, to leave this earth somehow better than we found it." - Pope Francis
Following Pope Francis’ admonition and with leadership from bishops from throughout the United States, The Catholic Benefits Association (CBA) makes it possible for Catholic employers - both nonprofit and for-profit - to exercise their faith in the health coverage they provide to their employees. To this end, the CBA has formed The Catholic Insurance Company (CIC) and arranged for health provider networks to assist Catholic employers in providing life-affirming health care - comprehensive, quality health care that honors the dignity of the human person and is consistent with Catholic values - and provides vigorous defense of its members’ First Amendment religious liberty regarding such coverage.
The CBA seeks to:
- SUPPORT Catholic employers - including dioceses, parishes, charities, religious institutes, schools, colleges, hospitals and others - who, as part of their religious exercise, seek to provide health coverage to their employees consistent with Catholic values;
- WORK AND ADVOCATE for the First Amendment religious liberty of Catholic employers to manage their health care plans according to their religious beliefs; and
- AID Catholic employers in responding to changes in the law that threaten their ability to conduct their employment practices aligned with their religious beliefs.
